Art Curriculum

Kindergarten | First Grade | Second Grade | Third Grade | Fourth Grade | Fifth Grade | Sixth Grade | Seventh Grade | Eighth Grade

 

 


 

Kindgergarten

Students will be introduced to the basic Elements of Art and the Principles of design terms. We follow the Diocesan Fine Arts Curriculum.

The children will have fun experimenting with a variety of materials, paper manipulation, painting, clay, weaving. etc.

Passing by the room you will hear us singing while we work “Art is messy... and that’s why we like it.”

The arts will be used to enhance their learning across the curriculum, insects, plants, farm and farm animals. Art projects will be made to develop their love of God.

Students will be encouraged to develop their talents in a God filled atmosphere.

 


 

First Grade

Students will continue to develop their knowledge of the Elements of Art and the Principles of design terms. We follow the Diocesan Fine Arts Curriculum.

The children will have fun experimenting with a variety of materials, oil pastels, paint, crayon and wash painting, sponge painting, sewing, etc.

Passing by the room you will hear us singing while we work “Art is Fun... and that’s why we like it.”

The arts will be used to enhance their learning across the curriculum, beginning perspective, space, etc. Art projects will be made to develop their love of God. Students will make special projects this year to prepare them for their first communion.

Students will be encouraged to develop their talents in a God filled atmosphere.

 


 

Second Grade

Students will continue to develop their knowledge of the Elements of Art and the Principles of design terms. We follow the Diocesan Fine Arts Curriculum.

The children will have fun experimenting with a variety of materials, oil pastels, paint, wet on wet salt painting, 3-D.

Passing by the room you will hear us singing while we work “Art is Creative... and that’s why we like it.”

The arts will be used to enhance their learning across the curriculum, dinosaurs, plants and insects. Art projects will be made to develop their love of God. Students will make special projects this year to prepare them for their first communion.

Students will be encouraged to develop their talents in a God filled atmosphere.

 


 

 

Third Grade

Students will continue to develop their knowledge of the Elements of Art and the Principles of design terms. Students will begin to master some of the basic vocabulary, and begin to develop more difficult concepts. We follow the Diocesan Fine Arts Curriculum.

The children will have fun experimenting with a variety of materials, oil pastels, paint, weaving, while learning about artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Picasso.

Passing by the room you will hear us singing while we work “Art is Creative... and that’s why we like it.”

The arts will be used to enhance their learning across the curriculum. Art projects will be made to develop their love of God.

Students will be encouraged to develop their talents in a God filled atmosphere.

 


 

 

Fourth Grade

Students will continue to develop their knowledge of the Elements of Art and the Principles of design terms. Students will begin to master some of the basic vocabulary, and begin to develop more difficult concepts. We follow the Diocesan Fine Arts Curriculum.

The children will have fun experimenting with a variety of materials, applying the knowledge and skills they have been learning and developing. They will be learning about such artists as Georgia O’Keefe.

The arts will be used to enhance their learning across the curriculum, such as the Sequoia tree, rain forests, etc.

Art projects will be made to develop their love of God.

Students will be encouraged to develop their talents in a God filled atmosphere.

 


 

 

Fifth Grade

Students will continue to develop their knowledge of the Elements of Art and the Principles of design terms. Students will begin to master some of the basic vocabulary, and begin to develop more difficult concepts. We follow the Diocesan Fine Arts Curriculum.

The children will have fun experimenting with a variety of materials, applying the knowledge and skills learned. They will be learning about such artists as M.C Escher.

The arts will be used to enhance their learning across the curriculum, such as trees, perspective, presidents. Students will have the opportunity to create a group project, developing cooperation skills, etc.

Art projects will be made to develop their love of God.

Students will be encouraged to develop their talents in a God filled atmosphere.

 


 

 

Sixth Grade

Students will continue to develop their knowledge of the Elements of Art and the Principles of design terms. Students will continue to master some of the basic vocabulary, and begin to develop more difficult concepts. We follow the Diocesan Fine Arts Curriculum.

The students will have an emphasis on sculpture. Creating a paper mache project, clay or foam sculptures, as well as a one point perspective project. They will use a variety of materials, clay, introduction to painting with acrylic paint, etc.

Students will learn about artists, such as Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Auguste Rodin. Students will be given the opportunity to create a technology art project.

Students will be encouraged to develop their talents in a God filled atmosphere.

 


 

 

Seventh Grade

Students will continue to develop their knowledge of the Elements of Art and the Principles of design terms. Students will continue to master some of the basic vocabulary, and begin to develop more difficult concepts. We follow the Diocesan Fine Arts Curriculum.

The students will have an emphasis on the Impressionist time period. The students will create an Impressionist work, choosing between oil pastels or acrylic painting on canvas. Students will learn how art records history as well as, what historical events happened while some of our famous artist were creating masterpieces.

Students will create a technology art project. Students will be given the opportunity to work on group projects.

Students will be encouraged to develop their talents in a God filled atmosphere.

 


 

 

Eighth Grade

Students will continue to develop and master their knowledge of the Elements of Art and the Principles of design terms. We follow the Diocesan Fine Arts Curriculum.

The students will have an emphasis on the Middle Age and Renaissance time period. The students will keep a kindness and gratitude calligraphy/cursive journal. Students will learn how art records history as well as, what historical events happened while some of our famous artist were creating masterpieces.

Students will create a technology art project. Students will be given the opportunity to work on group projects.

Students will be encouraged to develop their talents in a God filled atmosphere.
