6th Grade Course Content

6th grade covers the following topics in Spanish:

  • colors
  • letters
  • numbers
  • basic nouns

In grammar we will cover:

  • how to introduce ourselves and others
  • how to ask how someone feels and how old they are
  • adjectives to describe appearance and personality
  • how to tell time and to say when an event occurs
  • how to conjugate verbs


Throughout the year, we learn about the Spanish cultures around the world. We investigate and celebrate Spanish holidays.

7th grade covers the following topics in Spanish:

  • review of: introductions, greetings, numbers, calendar, the weather, schedules, telling time and classroom phrases
  • after school activities
  • snack foods and beverages
  • describing yourself and others
  • describing classes and location
  • expressing feelings
  • meals and food, in a restaurant
  • asking questions
  • family
  • clothing and shopping
  • places and events, getting around town

In grammar, we will cover:

  • review of all regular present tense verb form endings: -ar, -er, and –ir, definite and indefinite articles, noun-adjective agreement
  • gustar with an infinitive, gustar with nouns
  • the verbs tener, estar and ir
  • comparatives
  • possessive adjectives
  • stem changing verbs: e → ie, o → ue, and e → i

Throughout the year we learn about the Spanish cultures around the world. We research and celebrate Spanish holidays. We also write paragraphs and have impromptu conversations.


 

 

8th Grade Course Content:

The 8th graders cover the following topics in Spanish:

  • review of after school activities, snack foods & beverages, describing, expressing feelings, food at a restaurant, questions,
  • family, clothing, dates
  • learn to describe a house & household items
  • indicate the order of things, series of events
  • planning a party
  • chores and responsibilities
  • say what you just did
  • talk about sports
  • talk about who and what you know
  • parts of the body & staying healthy
  • technology
  • indefinite or negative situations
  • talk on the phone, extend invitations, say where you went & what you did
  • talk about a typical day, what you are doing, and your daily routine
  • vacation-routine, activities & buying souvenirs

In grammar we will cover:

  • review of: regular present tense verb endings: -ar, -er, & -ir, noun/adjective agreement, gustar with an infinitive or noun, use of the verbs tener, estar & ir, comparatives, possessive adjectives, stem changing verbs
  • use of the verbs ser or estar
  • ordinal numbers
  • uses of ser and estar
  • affirmative tú commands, affirmative & negative words
  • acabar de + infinitive
  • the verbs jugar, saber & conocer, doler
  • the personal a
  • preterite tense of regular –ar, -er & -ir verbs and –car, -gar & -zar verbs, preterite of ir, ser & hacer
  • pronouns after prepositions
  • ¡Qué + adjective!
  • reflexive verbs, present progressive, indirect object pronouns, demonstrative adjectives
